Game Idea

I have been looking at popular games currently on the iphone and at the online resources on the apple developer website such as the iOS Human Interface Guidelines:

http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/Introduction/Introduction.html

This gives an overview of everything an app can utilise on the iphone/ipod touch, and also gives advise for people creating apps.

After researching lots of games, the dev kit, and what the iphone and ipod touch are capable of, I have decided to create a game that is not iphone exclusive. Because the ipad and the ipod touch V3 and back do not have things like cameras and microphones, I want to create a game where these are not needed, so that they can be played on any apple device - the ipod does come with headphones that have a microphone in them however, so I could use the microphone if needed.

Game Concept

You play as a virus character that travels through the blood system infecting viruses by bumping into them, and avoids the white blood cells that shoot antibodies at you. You can also shoot back at the white blood cells with virus goo. It will look like you are travelling down a tube (the artery) and you will have to tilt the iphone forward, back and side to side to change if the virus goes left, right, up or down, since it it constantly being moved forward by the artery. You can shoot by pressing a button on the right hand side at the bottom where you would hold it to tilt it. Because it it steadied by the other hand, you can still steer it easily while shooting.

Relevant App Store Games

These are some games that I have downloaded from the app store and played to research games similar in concept to my idea to see what games I am up against and to make sure my game is original and not very similar to current games on the market.

Rhythm Games:

I have decided to either make a rhythm game, or a game that is related to music in some way, as some of my favourite games are rhythm games, and they allow for a lot of creativity in the gameplay. There are so many different types of rhythm games, and they are all so different in concept. This is one of the only genres that the developers are really free do whatever they want in terms of gameplay. Some the best rhythm games, like iphone games are the simplest, That is why I want to draw inspiration from various rhythm and music games not on the iphone and see what I can come up with.

Iphone Rhythm Games

I also took a look on the iphone app store to have a look at the current rhythm and music games out there. There aren't that many innovative new ones, it actually mostly seems like they just copy the concept of games on other consoles, or that popular games already on other consoles release an iphone version of their already made games, such as dance dance revolution.
